BUT WHEN I HAVE JOINED MY ARTICLESHIP THERE WERE 8 ARTICLES UNDER MY PRINCIPLE 

i dont think it is six it changes with the no of years of service of the principle and in case there are any other CA's he is employed under him the main principle can take in more articled clerks.

  Actually ,  I was also confused  in 6 or 8 ...

  I think ........... it should b 8

           5-10 years                  -------      7

      More than 10                   -------     10

Its depend upon practice of CA...

If your practice is more than 10 years then max no of article student is 10 but if you require more than with the permission of ICAI you can add one more....
