notice 139(9)

Dear sir, please advise..I received a notice u/s 139(9) with error code31, first thing I have file a return with itr 4 instead if itr 4s... my question is can I change a itr form while respond to 139(9)
if not than what I do to resolve this defective return.. please sir ....
