Need imporant topics to prepare for cwa idt exam in dec 2013

Dear All,

I am preparing for ICWAI Indirect Taxation for Dec 2013 Exam. Can you please suggest important topics for each of these areas-

Excise

Customs Service

VAT

I am not taking any coaching and self preparing for exam. It will be a great help for me.

hi,

Am sure you have the scanner, see the weights given to each topics

and there you go bob's your uncle!

If you ask me, I'll suggest to understand the concepts and

cenvat credit rules rather than focusing on the so called or

assumed 'important for exam' topics. Many say this is 'Bright side approach'

Just my suggestion, no disrespect for your approach.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion. However if I ask for important topics I don't mean to say that I won't focus on Concepts. What I want to decide is my priority. As I am full time working person and I am not taking any coaching, I have limited time. That's why I want to priortize topics.

I have completed excise. Service and custom is pending now. In Service Tax, there are many services with detailed calculations and concepts in each of these. I am doubtful if I will be able to complete my syllabus in time as in between I have some family plans too.

Hence would request someone to suggest, which subtopics can be priortised, specially in Service tax I want to know which services are important in which I should learn all the Negative services, exemptions, calculations etc. If some one could help me with this, I will be really thankful.

agree with kishor, my friends say it is difficult to predict important stuff in

professional exams like ca and icwa.

Let's wait for more replies.

Too tough to predict still you can see last 5 yr papers to try to understand inst trend of asking questions in exams.. it will help you

Please let me know if my understanding is correct about what you are trying to convey.

Are you suggesting that I should give equal stress and importance to all topics of Service Tax and Customs while preparing because it is difficult to predict the trend of questions that can be asked in professional exams like CA and ICWA. Weightage keeps varying.
