Need guidance regarding exam prep

Hi, I am attempting ipcc exam in nov 15. I have little time left and i need guidance regarding how to prepare for the exam.. I have completed cafm and have taken classes for accounts, tax and advanced accounts.. I am mostly worried about the theory subjects as its difficult for me to memorize so much in so little time.. Should i give both groups or single group? I ll be truthful here.. my original attempt was due in nov 13 .. but I didnt study for it as i didnt give 2 f**ks about it.. then i thought  i would give nov 14.. I prepared grp 1 except law but due to some problems i couldnt give the exam ( admit card was ready) .. I am 20 years old now and dont really want to waste more time and I know this is what I want to do in life.. Please Guide me about how and what to study... I am ready to give this as much time as possible.

Hi Divy,

Please find below some points for your consideration. Hope it will be helpful to you in taking the decisions.

1. First and foremost important thing- just relax and calm down.

2. Taking the classes and prepared for the exam are two different things.

3. It is always advisable to go for both the groups but since time is less now and given the IPCC syllabus you should first prepare group 1(As clearing this will make way for your articleship) and second group can be taken care of later.

4. If you are not sure about both the groups, then it is always better to clear one and then give the second. As clearing in this way will be counted as 1 attempt, instead of taking a chance and increasing your number of attempts unncessarily. Further since your articleship will be started after clearing group 1, your final attempt will not be delayed and hence no wastage of time per se.

Conclusion- 2.5 months are certainly enough for 1st group preparation but not good enough for both the groups. So go for 1st group and target clearing it in 1st attempt.

this isnt my first attempt .. its my 2nd I couldnt give the exam last time due to unforeseable circumstances .. I have prepared grp 1 subjects before except law but i need to revise them as i dont remember it all

Hi Divy/Rocky

Lets make a plan with some rational assumption.

1. 2.5 months i.e effectively 80 days

2. Total subjects- 7

3. Days per subject if opted for both group-=80/7=11. if opted for single group-80/4=20 days.

So now based on your past preparations you think that you will be able to complete all the subjects(1st time reading+2 revisions) in approx 11 days, then go ahead with both the groups, else single group.

No matter what had happened in the past, its time to take correct decision for the future.

Take decision wisely.

What would be better ? Passing single grp in this attempt or failing both grps in this attempt and passing in may 16. I am mostly concerned about getting a good firm for articleship..

Hi Rocky,

I think i have already explained you that.

One bird in hand is better than two in the bush.

And dont worry about getting a good firm for articleship unless you are targetting Big 4s.

And why count an attempt by failing in both the group and giving both the group again in May 2016. It is does not make any sense. Does it??

Think PRACTICALLY and LOGICALLY buddy.
