Dear Ameet,
In the PAN application form item 2 states : Name you would like printed on the card wherein if you write the HUF name without the word HUF, then the same would be printed on the card, despite the fact the the entity is an HUF.
Status of the applicant is required to be mentioned separately in item 9 of form 49A.
Hope its clear now.!

Hii dear,
Some times PAN card of HUF printed with the word HUF as mentioned by AMEET,but if 4th letter of PAN id "H" than it denotes HUF status,if it is than no problem, card belogs to HUF.
YES, THE WORD HUF SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN FROM 49A, BUT EVEN IF U DO NOT WRITE THE WORD HUF AND SUBMIT APPLICATION THEN THE INCOME TAX PAN SERVICE UNIT MAY ACCEPT THE APPLICATION, BECAUSE U MUST CHECK THE BOX OF HUF( i.e. THE APPLICANT IS HUF) AND IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT NAME U WOULD LIKE TO PRINT ON THE PAN CARD SHOULD INCLUDE THE WORD "HUF"................REGARDS

its better to not write word HUF ON PAN CARD,AS SOMETIMES IT CAUSES PROBLEM IN BANKING OPERATIONS e.g. taking finance, that bankers without understanding the concept, demand additional and unnecessary formalities. You know if a knoweledgeable person is seeing the pan card he will get from fourth character that it is HUF.
