Every year on October 2, we celebrate birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. We know much more about him. Today is also celebrated birthday of Mr. Lal Bahadur shastri, freedom fighter and ex-prime minister, railway minister of India. They both are ever shining gems of Indian history. Both were great men who fought for our rights. Both were simple, soft hearted and proudless.
Shastri ji may be ideal for all politicians. His only asset was a second hand old car brought from Indian Govt. on installments. The loan was due until death in spite of serving on great posts of India. He prefered the cycle for their ordinary daily works. He lived in a rented house.
In memory of Gandhi ji, today is celebrated as world non-violence day. He was a servant of common public. I read a story about him : One day in his Ashram, a monk in saffron dress came to wished to serve the public. Gandhi ji refuused him. He asked the reason. then he replied " you can't serve to Indian people in this dress instead you will be served. Our religious people will not allow you to serve. So you have to wear simple dress.
Today we need that kind of spirit. I salute both the great souls on their birthday.
