Minor to Major?

565 views 3 replies

My brother just had his 18th bday on August 2009 so will he submit an individual return for A.Y. 2009-10 or will his income be clubbed with that of my dad?

if he will submit an individual return then whether the normal exemption limit be applicable?

Dear Ria,

First of all wish ur brother a belated happy b'day..

Yes he has to file return in his own capacity from AY 2010-11 since age is to seen in the Previous year & not AY..Exemption limit will be available amounting to Rs.1,60,000/-

thanks so much for the reply.

Hi RIA.... he's completed 18 years in AY 2010-11..., So definately he's eligible to file return on indivicual basis.... (As he was in 17 during AY 2009-10, he is not elgible for that year).....

Moreover, the basic exemption limit and all rules of TAXATION are applicable for him thereafter....
