what is the role of a member without holding shares?what kind of benefits can he get?

1.on transfer of shares until the shares are registered in the name of tansferee,the transferor continues to be the member but not the shareholder.
2.on death of member he will cease to be the shareholder but until shares are registered in the name of legal representative his name will continue to be in the members register.
3.on becoming insolvent he ceases to be the shareholder since shares are transferred to official receiver but he'll continue to be member of company.
and some other cases...
