Medical expenses reimbursement

Tax queries 764 views 3 replies

Hello,

I receive Rs. 15000 p.a. as Medical Allowance from my employer. And at the end of the year, we need to submit medical bills so that it can be exempted.

But this year, I could not submit medical bills in my organization. so in my FORM 16 this amount is taxable.

Now at the time of filing ITR, can I attach all the medical bills and mention this amount of rs. 15k as medical reimbursement exemption?

Thanks,

Sharad

No i dont think you can attach now and claim exemption..

mr Sharad, yes you can claim the exemption nwo while filing your return of income and claim the refund of excess TDS made. no need to attach anything to the return.  kep the bills with you only as they may be required if your case comes up for scrutiny.

Dear Aanya, can you explain why the exemption can't be claimed while filing the return.

I think the words MEDICAL ALLOWANCE is incorrect in this case as medical allowance is taxable
