Medical Allowance - What are Disallowed

Tax queries 1197 views 2 replies

Hi Everybody,

I understand, medical reimbursement is exempt from tax to extent 15000/-. It is very difficult to find the list of items which doesnot qualify to claim as medical reimbursement and seek exemption. Can anyone please help provide precisely, the section reference and clause, which details items that donot qualify to claim medical reimbursement and  seek exemption thereon. I understand few such items which donot qualify are Toiletries, cosmetics and items of personal hygiene, Mineral water and health drinks/beverages. Does treatment on Dandruff include for exemption or is this part of cosmetics?

Thank you,

Vinay

Dear Vinay,

Treatment of dandruf  is expenditure for medical.

A very simple reason - its a kind of disease.

If you do not get treatment, you would have every chance for incurring Cosmetic Expenditure. Which is not allowable.

For IT Purpose bills are  not generally  required for such a purpose. These are required ,only when your employer allows you reimbursement on the basis of bills, you have to produce the same before him.

Inspite of going into negative list, claim this benefit if it is a genuine medical expenditure.

Could you please provide reference of the section and detailed list of what is allowed and disallowed?
