Meaning of sub-contract

This is just to clarify whether i'm correct or not.

Sub-Contract basically means that a company, to whom a contract is awarded, contracts or delegates a part of it to be done by another company. The part of the contract which is delegated or outsourced to another company is called 'Sub-Contract'.

I hope i'm not wrong.
