Today many universities are actually offering a PGDBM (HR/FINANCE, etc.) which is supposed to be equivalent to MBA ... Is it really so ?? Will doing a MBA (Correspondence/distance mode) have an edge over doing a PGDBM when it comes to recruitment ??

I think MBA and PGDBM is doesn't equivlant because DBM is just Diploma and it is useful only to limited purpose.
PGDBM is recruitment is for only in private sector banks.

See, MBA is a Master Degree. CANT b offered by bschools which ARE NOT Univs.
IIMs arent Univs, So they provide PGDM
IGNOU is a Univ, So it provides MBA
in the job market, the Bschool matters. NOT the name of the management degree

IIMs are allowed to offer degree with a recent amendment passed by govt. If you are still not sure about difference between MBA and PGDM, think of your career goals post MBA/PGDM. Be especially careful if you are targeting govt jobs since PGDM is not a degree.
