The School of Management Studies of the IGNOU offers distance learning MBA programs for the MBA aspirants. The admission to the IGNOU Distance MBA program is based on the management entrance test commonly called the IGNOU OPENMAT which is conducted twice every year.OPENMAT is conducted in February and August every year.
An IGNOU MBA aspirant can appear for any one of the two OPENMAT entrance examinations conducted every year. Other MBA entrance tests conducted by various management institutions like CAT, MAT, and various other state level entrance examinations are also considered for the admission to IGNOU MBA program, those who appeared in any one of the above mentioned examinations need not appear for the OPENMAT examination (The cut off mark is decided by IGNOU with a requisite of 40%).
The most basic eligibility criterions for IGNOU Distance MBA are
1: Bachelors Degree in any discipline with 50% marks (45% for the Reserved Category).
2: Clearance of the OPENMAT Entrance Test by IGNOU.

IGNOU Distance MBA aspirants should appear in any one of the OPENMAT Examinations which are scheduled to be conducted on the following dates
Last Date for Receipt of Applications at IGNOU: 10th January 2013
OPENMAT XXXIII Examination Date: 24th February 2013 (Sunday 10 AM- 1PM)
OPENMAT XXXIV
Last Date for Receipt of Applications at IGNOU: 15th July 2013
OPENMAT XXXVI Examination Date: 15rd August 2013 (Thursday 10 AM- 1PM)
Belated Applications for OPENMAT will be rejected.
Application forms for the IGNOU OPENMAT examinations are available from IGNOU Regional Centres, Study Centres or from the IGNOU official website www.ignou.ac.in. The Prospectus and the OPENMAT sample question papers can be obtained from the regional centres or the IGNOU Head Quarters with a payment of Rs.500.
The OPENMAT form can also be downloaded from the official IGNOU website, those who download the OPENMAT prospectus and IGNOU OPENMAT application form should submit a Demand Draft of Rs.550 along with the OPENMAT application form, drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at Delhi.
The OPENMAT hall tickets are sent to the applicants at least before 10 days from the commencement of the OPENMAT test. Those OPENMAT applicants who did not get the hall ticket can download it from the IGNOU website. The candidates must appear in the OPENMAT exam centres with the Hall ticket.
OPENMAT results are usually published within 6-7 weeks of the conduct of the examination and are mailed to the candidates who appeared for the OPENMAT examination. There is also a provision to download the OPENMAT result card from the IGNOU website in case the Results card is not delivered to you.
The OPENMAT result card is sent to you and once you are qualified in the OPENMAT then you are eligible for admission to the IGNOU MBA or other management programmes by IGNOU.The OPENMAT Score is valid for two semesters and you can take admission in any one of the following semesters.

Note: Candidates need to take admission in any one of the semesters for which their OPENMAT score is valid.
For admission to IGNOU MBA, the qualified candidates are required to submit the filled in APPLICATION FORM-2 (which can be found in the IGNOU Prospectus for Management Programs that the candidates have already purchased) to the IGNOU Regional Directors concerned.
A photocopy of the application to IGNOU MBA is advised to be kept with the candidates for future reference.
The IGNOU MBA program comprises of 21 courses. The total course fee for IGNOU MBA course is Rs.21000, i.e. Rs.1000 per course.
