There is no maximum period mentioned anywhere in act by which you need to pay tax payable as reported in tax return, as you are liable for interest u/s 234B and 234C for such delay. Portal will process intimation u/s 143(1) in a regular way with tax demand alongwith interest u/s 234B and 234C which would be then reflected in your income tax login under outstanding demand. So as soon as you paid the taxes, just revised your income tax return (if tax paid before the end of assessment year) with the tax paid details incorporated therein rather than following route of notices and responses.

Whether the return become invalid? |
No, the relevant clause u/s 139(9) of the income tax act which provides for return to be treated as invalid if tax payable not paid before filing of income tax return and hence, it is allowed to pay tax payable as shown in income tax return after filing. Further, if it make return invalid, our tax portal must not have been allowed to proceed ahead with filing in first place in similar cases.
