Malabar Gold to expand globally

KOCHI: The retail jewellery chain Malabar Gold is planning to expand its reach to more foreign countries. It is looking at Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka for immediate expansion. The jewellery major is also planning a foray into London as its first entry into the European market.

Forseeing this expansion, Malabar Gold is looking for a brand identity programme. It has tied up with Brand Union, a strategic global agency, to enhance its existing corporate image. The agency is a part of WPP group and will work closely with Malabar Gold in strengthening its position in global and regional markets.

According to Malabar Group chairman M P Ahammed, the jewellery chain sees global marketing opportunity for ornaments designed in India. Already, 10 out of 12 diamonds marketed worldwide are finished in India`` We are further opening the door for global appreciation of Indian jewellery through our proposed overseas branches, '' he said.

Malabar Gold is one of the fast growing jewellery retailers and has grown from single jewellery to 54 showrooms over a period of years. It has established its network in all GCC countries. The company has a turnover of Rs 4000 crore and has a workforce of 4600. Its branches in Jeddah, Ruwi, Chennai, Vizag, Kakinada, Guntur, Kondotty, Kottakal and Chavakkad will be opened shortly
