For the purpose of change in registered office location of a private company, do Thane and Colaba (Mumbai) belong to same local area? Thanks in anticipation.

Dear Ankit,

For the purpose of change in registered office, Thane and Colaba belong to same local area.

As per MCA Circular no. : 19/1972  dated : 26th June, 1972, where as a result of rapid urbanisation, the local limits expand, the term 'local limits' should be understood to mean 'local limits' (in this case, the Mumbai City) as well as, the 'postal limits' (in this case, Thane) and when the two do not coincide, the wider of the two. Thus, Mumbai & Thane will be considered as same place.

Although, the Municipalities may be different, Thane is very much a part of Mumbai.

Veeral Gandhi

P.S : For your information, please look at the map of Mumbai.

Thanks for a prompt reply.

I am also hearing a view that Thane and Colaba are not within same local limits.

Is it the experience with anyone else also?

Thanks in anticipation for clarifying doubt.
