6 month from the end of financial year in which return is filed. so notice u/s 142(2) can be issue any time before 30th sept 2011.

You have file your return in AY 2010-11. 6 month from the end of financial year 31st March2011 is 30th Sep. 2011. So notice u/s 142(2) can be issue any time before 30th sept 2011.

What is the time limit for issue of notice U/S 143(2) if the return was filed on 30th July 2011 for the assessment year 2010-11? I have received a notice dated 11th Aug 2012 asking me to appear before AO on 27th Aug 2012. Is this valid? Should i attend this?

Since the notice can be issue any time before the end of 6 month from the end of financial year in which return is filed. so notice u/s 142(2) can be issue any time before 30th sept 2012.
So it is valid notice and you have to attend ..
