Letter Head in lieu of Donation Receipt

Tax queries 2757 views 2 replies

My father has donated to Brahmakumari Charitable & Religious Trust during this year 2008-09. But the trust has not issued donation receipt to acknowledge the above sum, instead they say, the aforesaid sum particulars like date, amount, donor name, including I.T approval Ref. No. for claiming donation U/s.80G by donor, can be typed in the "LETTER HEAD" of the Trust and can be given in lieu of "RECEIPT FORMAT".

Now is it possible to claim such donation by donor u/s.80G by producing "LETTER HEAD" either to the employer or alongwith return of income?

Thanks.

yes it is legal

No format for donation receipt has been prescribed by IT law, and hence the receipt on letter head is perfectly legal.
