Hi Amit,
1. Gateway of Tally (Main screen) >> Display >> Account Book >> Journal Register.
Here, you can check the transactions passed using Journal, credit note and debit note.
2. When the transactions are getting displayed from any report, you can use "Alt + F12" to filter the data.
For example, if you want to search for a particular reference number you can access
"Alt + F12" >> Vouchers having reference containing 123
it displays all the vouchers in which reference contains value "123"
If this is useful, please let me know i will share others
with regards,
Subramanya

You can try Alt+F12 funtion for filtering the date on various basis as Mr.Subramanya said.
Sec 40a(3) of IT act :: Take the cash ledger and use Alt+F12 funtion to know the payments made more than 20,000 in a single day. (you can use excel utility function that a single person has been paid more than 20,000 in a single day where in is not possible in tally)
Business Promotion or related terms:: take the journal register and use Alt+F12 >> Narration containing >> Business promotion expenses (where in most of companies maintains this account to manage the illegal cash flows)
Columnar :: Use columnar utility in tally to sort, or for calculation by exporting the register into excel. It will be more useful for Statutory duties calculation i.e ED, VAT/CST, Customs etc

The new version of Tally has audit module in it which makes audit very easy and less time taking work, even the reports and queries can be written in tally itself,
An audit program has been provided which we can start with and has a lot of other features very important for both statutory audit and tax audit. Try the demo version.
