Gurugram-based legal edtech company LawSikho has announced 100 percent scholarships for 500 persons with disabilities (PWD). The candidates who complete the courses successfully will be co-certified by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

A small-scale pilot project has already been tested and over a hundred candidates have benefited from it so far. This expansion will capitalise on the learnings from the existing programme.

Of the 500 seats, 300 will be reserved for law graduates and law students, while 200 will be open to non-law candidates interested in remote freelance work.

This is a wonderful opportunity for CA/CS candidates with disabilities. The efficient functioning of a company or business is the result of a collaborative effort and coordination of various teams and departments. The financial health and history of the company helps determine its growth and any future negotiations. A CA has the responsibility of helping a company keep track of its financial well-being by executing their responsibilities as Auditors, Accountants, Financial Analysts, Investment Advisors, etc.

Another factor that helps businesses to function as legal entities and conduct business under their names is adherence to laws and policies.  Through their roles as Legal Advisors, Corporate Policy Makers, Corporate Planners, Chief Administration Officers, etc. a CS as an in-house legal expert and compliance officer, performs and manages various regulatory functions which assures continued functioning of the company.

With the steady evolution of business either due to the nature of its field, or factors like the pandemic and inter-industry interaction,  it has become necessary for individuals to upskill themselves when they can so that they can become better assets to companies, therefore improving their own career prospects.

With LawSikho’s courses on various topics including but not limited to US corporate law, M&A and investment law, international contract negotiation and drafting, bankruptcy, corporate taxation, and US tax compliance, the candidate unlocks access not just to improved quality of work in India but internationally as well. And all this, whether it be pursuing the course itself or even subsequent work opportunities, is remote, which is beneficial to any and all students, specially opening up a plethora of opportunities for those with physical disabilities wanting to pursue a career as a CA or CS.

The admission test will be held in October, but candidates can appear for an online on-demand admission test even later. The goal is to roll out all 500 scholarships before December 2022.

The eligibility for the scholarships will be determined by the online admission test. To qualify for the test, the candidate must produce a government-issued disability card or certificate of disability. The scholarships will cover LawSikho’s test prep courses for government jobs, upskilling courses focused on jobs in the private sector, and remote freelance work courses focused on international markets like US, UK and Canada.

“Many job seekers with disabilities find remote work much more suitable and convenient, but very few programmes exist for them. Given LawSikho’s success in helping Indian graduates secure remote work opportunities across the world, we felt that it would be a great time to formally announce scholarships for candidates who are also Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan). We have given free admission to over a hundred candidates already, and based on this initial success, we decided to expand the programme,”  — Vibhas Sen, Head of Marketing, LawSikho
