Late filling
Sir, my client is a retired govt employee and getting pension.He do not file his return ITR 1 within due date. He has paid self assesment tax. Now he will get refund. So, my question is that -
1). Will any penalty impose on him though interest will charge if he will file now.

Sorry for unavailable data. This is for a.y 2016-17
No, penalty for belated return for Ass. yr. 2016-17, if filed within the same ass. year i.e.before march 2017.
As the case is of refund, so no interest liable u/s. 234B/C
