First off all, I am not a CA,neither I do not have anything against CAs or this profession itself. I reached here by which is known as weird part of google. I felt like expressing this after reading this joke.
I am closely related to a CA article who will be appearing for finals in this November. Well first of all I must say articleship do suc**. Not the curriculum or the work itself but the way the articles are made to work like donkeys. I went thru some threads on this site after reading this joke and found out a lot of articles do go thru this. Especially those working in MNCs.
Well first in my honest opinion, this is the first every industry / profession I have seen where day to day operations are literally ran by trainees. I think without trainees this industry will shut down. Even when articles are playing major role in this industry they are getting very much scr**d by the members of this industry. I have had so many discussion-turned-in arguments with people about this in my day to day business. Mostly I got this answer saying 'Being a CA is not easy', well being what is easy? Even being a driver or lower wage labour is not easy. Then I got this answer: 'work is heavy and hectic, you won't understand'. Oh seriously, there are industries including one in which I work where there is so much work that day of 48 hours wont even be sufficient. There are deadlines which if not followed will cause complete brand disintegration and embarrasement. There are so many fields where there is no late fee, no deadline with penalty etc.
Main problem of this articles requiring to work almost 24X7 (off course not if you are working with small firm, no offence to them) even after having guidlines stated by your 'honorable' (I really lold on this) institute is not the work load, it's not the principals or its not the institute also. The cause is articles itself. As many CA articles I have came across in last 16 years of my professional experience, I found out they are only sort of afraid of saying NO to extra/out of the profile work. Be it in MNC or be it in local firms. Most of CA articles are not determined of being a CA but they behave like they HAVE to become a CA or it's the end of world. I am running a 'extra-medium' sized business with around 350 (educationally superior) staff, and I have always been telling them to stand out and say no if your senior, your boss and even myself is asking them to do some work which is not part of their profile.
I read a post where a member said he had worked since 10 AM till 4 AM (of next day) and then went back to work at 10AM. To that member: Well why did you go? You could've just told your senior NO, I am not coming. What could've been the worst case scenario buddy?
My advice to all the articles who are going thru this, and took time to read my long post. If you want to end this slogging era of articleship. Stand out and refuse. Learn to say NO. Nobody has right to twist or turn your personal life for your professional life.
Regards.

Not all principals are bad. Sometimes the assistants clerks who work for them think they are CA's & screw us.
