Job In the Treasury

Dear Friends,

I am a CA Fresher and as my first job offer, i have got an offer to work in the Treasury Dept from a leadin global company. I am uncertain about the prospects and the future growth. Pls help..

Hi Prateek,

Cong on getting your first job. Treasury is a deptt wherein you will learn much about company finances & financial management tools.

Regarding the proposed job offer, i would advise you to check for the followings:

- the company profile in the market ie whether the same is dealing in BSE/NSE or a non-listed company

- if the company is also trading in Derivatives or other financial instruments.

- your role in banking system decision making & above mentioned jobs (for exposure)

These are some of the basics to be checked-in at the time of opting for Treasury job. There are many companies (even MNCs also) which have 'Treasury' as a seperate department however the work is limited to banking transactions only, means they dont deal in other financial instruments & fields.

In your case, being a fresher, i suggest you to join the job. As whatever you get in this job, will add up as an experience for u.

I would like to add about the profile. The company deals in deravitives for hedging purposes and the value of expusure is huge. Furthermore i would be initially entrusted with the controlling aspect of the transactions entered into as the accounting function is outside the treasury. Along with controlling i am also supposed to have a clear understanding of taxation and accounting standards as i wld be required to ans the query's of auditors and top management.

I am a CA Fresher, having cleared all three levels in first attempt and am inclined towards opting for Treasury profile. You seem to have been in this profile for quite some time now and hence I would be glad to know as to what are my chances of getting into it and what do you think are the prospects. I am interested in Forex / Equity dealing within Treasury Department
