Itr transferred to jurisdictional assessing officer -queries

ITR 4051 views 6 replies

Hi, I now live in US and filed my taxes for the last assessment year. I paid close to 2 Lakh rupees in self assessment taxes taxes since i lived in India more than 182 days before moving to US, and as you know tax rate in US is lower than in India.

I had received an intimation of my ITR transferred to the local assessing officer last month stating "Credits for tax payments made outside India claimed in the return, which can not be verified by CPC." On this i have the following questions

a) On these transfer cases, can I view the status of my return online on the incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in website?

b) In case the assessing officer needs further documents, will the assessing officer ask for documents over e-mail in the ITR. Also, I had mentioned my US address in ITR (God, I hope he doesn't need me in India, I don't have anyone in the city anymore where i lived)

Regards,

Anjali

a) No more updates will be available on e-filling site, once file transferred to Jd. AO.

b) Not much to worry about, as the verification is manual procedure, which is not possible at CPC. So, as of the state its normal, unless during verification any difficulty arises. nowadays all the communications of the department are sent through email as well as hard copy, so you will get intimation. You can also reply to the mail, with any scanned copy of documents.

c) Unless any concealment of income or heavy foreign transections or any other doubt AO may get to open the file for scrutity, you need not be present pesonally. Secondly, in such case you can appoint any CA to represent your case.

in all probability you will face a "limited scrutiny" where only the issue which was flagged i.e. verification of foreign tax credit will be taken up. a limited scrutiny cannot be converted into a complete scrutiny until the Officer sees a likelihood of income above 10 lakhs escaping assessment. Now the department is providing an opportunity to complete scrutiny only through email. You will receive an email regarding the same and you can submit all documents online. This being first year of email scrutiny, a lot of officers are unsure about how it will work so the best approach is just wait and watch.

Hi,

Can someome update what had happened post receipt of letter??? Do we need to manually submit the tax certificates to he assessing officer?

I have also received same letter so.

Hi, Can someone share experience on such assessments? I received similar letter. No further communication from AO.
Same here, I am curious to know how such returns will complete assessment. I have also received such notification. What to do next.

Typically, the limited scrutiny will be conducted via e-proceeding. You’ll recieve email notifications as well. You will be asked to submit all documents online via e-proceedings. If all is in order you needn’t get tensed about this.
