ITR Received vs Processed

ITR 3041 views 2 replies

I have logged into this website to check my ITR status and history. I have gone through the View Return/Status section in the aforementioned website, I see that for some years status is received and for someother years its mentioned as processed.

MY ITRV Status report
2014-15 ITR-V received
2013-14 ITR Processed
2012-13 ITR-V received
2011-12 ITR Processed
  • What is the exact difference between ITR-V received and ITR Processed?
  • Like Processed, received status are there any other status available? Is there a completed status?
  • In the above table why is the 2012-13 year still in received state and 2013-14 is already processed?

Do I really have to be concerned about these status? Or My job as a tax payer ends by posting the ITR form to the Benguluru office.

Please help understand this clearly.

To be fair on a tax payer, his job ends if his ITR reaches Benagluru within the prescribed time. This is the point when the status of your ITR shows, Received.

Usually, the ITR is processed by the software, in a span of 4-6 months from the date of its receipt and the status is updated to ITR processed. (you can call this as Completed)

at this point you usually receive an intimation u/s 143 (1) which details the calculation of income and taxes made by you as well as the software. If there is any demand or refund as per this intimation which is not reflected in the ITR filed by you, then you may need to be worried about the same. However, if there isnt then there is nothing to be worried about.

You can call CPC Bengaluru to enquire about, the processing of your ITR which is not showing processed as yet. However, I can tell you some of their standard replies:

1. It is just a software glitch, your ITR is already processed.

2. It is under processing now and should be updated in a few days.

etc etc.

Firstly, thanks for your time in answering my question. It's clear and informative answer, I got the picture.
