Yes, for the specific professional services as covered u/s. 44AA of IT act....

Yes... He can. If his profession is under 44AA.

I am salaried and also do some freelancing work (Web development/maintenance). Last year I filed ITR 4 under 44ADA in category "other-professional" to show 50% of income as an expense.

This year there is "software development" as the category and now I am confused as what should I select. I also read somewhere that freelancers also need to compulsory register under GST and should have GST no. If I select software development then will I be able to file under 44ADA?

I have not charged taxes from anyone I have worked for.

PLZ Guide what to do.

If Your freelancing income and any other business income exceeds Rs 20lakhs/10lakhs then You want register under GST. Otherwise no need to register under GST...

You can file the same way in AY 18-19

Thanks for your reply.

Could you please let me know that which category should I choose?   Software Development or Other software Consultancy or other Professional services n.e.c. to file under 44ADA

And also can I leave GST No & Amount of turnover fields empty in E9 & E10?

The three codes are suitable for Your profession. But, You can use the "Other Proffesional Services" is better than other two. Bcoz, No more questions if You will select others...
