Within how many days of filing return, can one expect the refund? If it is delayed, what should one do?

If you have filed electronically, then within 3 months time, provided you are eligible for a refund and an individual tax payer having a simple return.

Thanks.
1. What happens if return is not filed electronically? Last year, I had filed return on ITR-2 form manually & expecting refund as per the calculations but have not received it as yet. Can I send reminder to IT Department?
2. This year I have filed return electronically but unfortunately paid execessive advance tax (my mistake) so expect refund. Should I expect it in 3 moths from filing return (July 2011)? If not received, can I send reminder to IT Department?
3. I am an individual tax payer. What is meant by simple return?
Best regards, RAKESH

Thanks. Any suggestion, what to do if not received in 3 months?
Any suggestion if refund not received even after one year of filing return manually?
Best regards, RAKESH
