Is this justified ?

"9. I applied for certified copies of my evaluated answer books and received them. I notice that the marks awarded on the answer books are different from the marks on my mark sheet? Why is it so?

In terms of Regulation 39(2) of the CA Regulations 1988, the Council of the Institute may, in its discretion, revise the marks obtained by all the candidates or a section of candidates in any particular paper or papers or in the aggregate in such manner as may be considered necessary, for maintaining the pass percentage provided in the regulations. The term “section” used in the above mentioned Regulation refers to the category of the candidates whose answer papers are valued by an examiner and such other category of candidates as may be specified by the Council. Marks awarded on the answer books are the marks given by the examiner, based on the actual performance of the candidate. Marks given on the mark sheet include marks awarded in terms of Regulation 39(2) mentioned above."

I was thinking to get certified copy of my SFM paper as i am very much confident that i did very good in that . I was expecting 70 plus in that and i landed up at 40. I am dam sure that something is wrong with the checking or the marks awarded, But after reading this regulation of CA i am worried that even if i have scored good they  might have given low marks at their own discretion.

Is this Justified? What can we do ?

There is a process of sending them request in written after u find any discrepancy b/w the marks allotted in answer sheet and marksheet...u should check on the institute's website about the process becoz I have read about such thing when I asked for my sfm answer copies last time..
Madhilika.. I believe u got more marks in marksheet than noted in answer book.....right...it is because the parameters given to examiners are such and evaluation is made by 2 persons mostly for check and control. Examiners search keywords else deny marks..hence later for enhance pass percentage icai adds marks not for all but for some parameters. Hence there is different in marks. I am not supporting icai but I give some points which I believe is true..

Megha Bansal..thanks i will surely check that out

Raghvan i completely agree with you ..but the situation where the institute gives grace marks to candidates is very rare. But this regulation that they can change the marks as per their discretion just to control the pass percentage is worse..then we all have to land up at getting 90+ in all subjects to get a 60 or 70 ..this makes me worried :(

Madhulika....no worry please..speak to some of your friends who cleared exams. I know some of my friends who put normal efforts cleared final with good marks. The solution is we should get more than 60 in some subjects to compensate 40 ( regulation39 (2) marks subject.have faith and prepare well. Get answer book of your exams to improve writing skills. All the best
