is it neccessary to read periodicals

i want to know that is it neccessary to read periodicals for the economic section to get into top 5 in ca cpt paper held in june 2010 because i have seen listed in the newspaper in the notice board of ca(vishwas nagar) building said that there are some questions may come of general knowledge based questions.. plzzz help me
