No coaching is not mandatory for IDT. But kindly observe the points below:
1. You may refer Bangar book for preparation.
2. Discuss the topics with your friends for better understanding and grip.
3. Do not leave any topic given in study or reference book
4. Fully complete your scanner. Also refer ICAI suggested.
5. Make short notes during study and refer them later at the time of revision.
6. Study with full confidence.

If you refer banger for self study then it will be sufficient. you have to decide, if you have enough time then self study will do otherwise coaching is required.
If you stay in Mumbai, TAYAL SIR's classes is the best for IDT.
