1- Is AMUL NPO ?
2- does NPO include cooperative society
NO, AMUL is not a Company or isn't even an organisation at all…. It's just a brand name owned by an Apex Cooperative Federation of Milk producers in Gujarat. The official name of the organisation is The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF).
Cooperative Society means an institution register with Indian Co-operative Societies Act, 1912 or Relevant Acts of States.
It is an association of persons who voluntarily pool their resources for utilizing them for the mutual welfare of members itself. Cooperative society is formed for the promotion of thrift, self-help and mutual assistance of the members.
A non-profit organization (NPO) is a group of persons or of societies, freely created by private initiative. An incorporated organization which exists for educational or charitable reasons, and from which its shareholders or trustees do
not benefit financially. Any money earned must be retained by the organization, and used for its own expenses, operations, and programs.
Hence Co-operative Societies fulfilling the above conditions and registered under societies registration act are NPOs.
