Dear Friends

I have started using Ajay Jain notes and my attempt is in Nov-08. I would like to know whether this would help me in scoring good marks in Indirect Taxes. i am also having Bangar but doing both the books simultaneously is not possible for me. Moreover i am doing Prakhar Sharma for Auditing. Is that book well enough for clearing exams? Please guide me in these two subjects.

Dear Chhayank,

Let me put it this way, for my May 07 attempt of Indirect Taxes, I just studied from Ajay Jain's Book for 3 months consecutively in such a way that I completed it about 4 times. I referred other books only when I needed clarification or needed to cross check something.

I got 85...

Sanjay

Thanks a lot. What exactly I would like to know from you is that whether there is any other book of Ajay Jain other than the famous 'Question Bank on Indirect Taxes'? And had you referred that particular book or Question Bank coz 85 in Indirect Taxes is very nice score and even i would like to score in that line. please help me in this regard

I studied from the text book and did not even touch the question bank. In the text book, all the provisions are given in a sequential manner and in a summarized form. The text book is not very big and after thoroughly reading it about 4 times, you will be surprised that you will have actually memorized the whole book.

I think what you should do is this:-

Study from the text book only and try to solve the questions in question bank from what you have studied from the text book and then compare.

Regards

Sanjay

Please do not study from Ajay Jain, unless you already have a good idea of customs/excise/ser.tax. I mean, unless you have practical knowledge in IDT, do not use Ajay Jain's book. Ajay Jain's book contains only points of answers & no proper explanation. In order to understand IDT correctly, you will need to study book by Bangar. Assuming you are a newbie to IDT, IDT by its nature will require atleast two readings before you actually start understanding its concepts. Its only the third time when you read, that you will be able to actually start retaining its concepts. I think Ajay Jain's Text book has been made keeping in mind the students that he personally teaches. If you have no clue about what IDT is and if you start reading Ajay Jain, be prepared for a second and third attempt.

i would like to know from you whether there is any book in the market which is precise and to the point for direct and indirect taxes

Chankya babu If U really want to pass in one attempt do not refer notes shri Ajai Jain. Unke students ka aaj kal kya haal ho raha woh dekh lo phir unke notes le lena. Yadi aap kisi book ko refer karna chaho to VS datey kar lo usase acchi koi book nahi hai
