Dear Friends,

I have a doubt regarding ITR filing of a salaried person whose details and problem are as below.

Mr. A was a salaried employee and was getting total salary of Rs. 60,000/- p.m.. In his offer letter break-up of Rs. 60,000/- was as follow:

Basic Pay: - Rs. 20,000/-

Other allowances:- Rs. 40,000/-

Later on, Mr. A came to know that out of this 40,000/-, Rs. 12,000/- is for HRA (it is not provided in written).

In form 16, Allowances exempt u/s 10 is Rs. 8138 but Mr. A dnt knw in which regard this allowance exepmtion has been provided. Mr. A had not provide a single rent receipt/any decleration to his employer so i think that this can not be for HRA purpose.

Now, whwther it is possible to claim HRA in ITR or what are the other options for Mr. A to claim allowances in ITR filing.

Please provide suggestions and if you need any further clarification then please let me know.

Thanks,
