Income tax returns

my wife used to file income tax returns till 2010 but later she had no income except the interest on fd n that too in the exemption limit so our CA said she doesn't need to file returns n thus we stopped filing returns but now for assessment year 2012-13 and 2013-14 we got notice saying that we haven't filed returns n code is CIB-403 saying time deposit exceeding rs. 2,00,000/- with a banking company and TDS-194A saying TDS return-other interest (Section 194A). what is the meaning and what we need to do now. when I checked online under compliance nothing is showing there. please advise.

TDS return means that bank has filed a return and it contains your pan, also chek how much bank interest you got in that FY, does it exceed 2L??

Dear sir

Thnx 4 prompt reply.

No the interest doesn't exceed rs. 2 lacs n even if it exceeds the total exemption for a woman is 2.5 lacs i suppose but i m not sure about that financial year.

Suppose it exceeded rs. 2 lacs then wht option do we have now coz that period is gone n date of filing returns as well is gone

Whts the solution then

Sir,

As per my knowledge if your wife's income is below Taxable limit, its not mandatory to file IT Return. If your Wife's Income is below Taxable limit just login at Incometaxindiaefiling and go to compliance of respective year and submit the reason as non taxable

Oh is it that simple

I checked the interest recd in that period n its not exceeding the taxable limit n infact much lower to that

Anyways thnx a lot
