Sir

I am an Ex-serviceman ( retired on completion of 15 Yrs in 1986). I have now received difference of pension arrears in the financial year 2016-17 on account of

(a)Calculating the full service pension ( for 33yrs)

(b) One rank one pension

Are the above arrears Exempted or Taxable? If taxable can I spread this arrears to my previous years and file my revised IT return and if so for how many years I can revise it?

Please guide...

Thank you

Taxable.

Yes, you can take tax relief u/s. 89(1).

No need to revise old IT returns. Just filling form 10E in current year enables you to get tax relief of old arrears. So, only filling the return of the year in which arrears received.
