Income tax on hra

I am now on transfer to Hyderabad from Chennai.  I am paying  house rent at Chennai for my family (14000/-p.m) and   i  am alone moving to Hyderabad and will stay in a Bachelors mansion or will stay in my relative's house.  Whether can I claim the HRA paid at Chennai for my family  even though i am getting my salary and HRA from Hyderabad.

sec 10(13A) rule 2A

You can claim rent paid in Hydrabad not of chennai.

The rule that will be applied to you here is from the Income Tax Act 1961, Sec 10 (13A) with Rule 2A of Income Tax Rules.

In your specific case I feel that you can mention any of the rents you are paying, and I am sure you would prefer the rent that is higher since that will get you a higher exemption. Even if you are staying in Hyderabad now it is your family you are paying the rent for back in Chennai and if the rental agreement has your name then you can include the same. Then again I am no CA, so please check.
