Sounds quite Strange...
However, you could check whether your PAN still exists in IT records by visiting the following link:
https://onlineservices.tin.egov-nsdl.com/etaxnew/tdsnontds.jsp
We have to visit the above site, because today the 'Know your Jurisdiction' option cannot be accessed without logging into the INCOMETAXINDIAEFILING website.
Once the site opens, you may select "ChallanNo. / I.T.N.S 280" meant for Income tax or SAT payments. Once the form opens up, you can provide the client's PAN along with some dummy data in the other mandatory fields. Then click on PROCEED.
If the PAN exists in IT records, the full name of the assesse as per the IT Dept database shall appear on the confirmation screen. Thereby you can confirm whether the PAN is still valid..
You may anyway have to contact IT dept.

how u have resolved that issue? i am facing same issue now, i registered through website and while i logging in, its not allowing me, when try to reset password, it shows user id doesn't exist. could u pls help how u resolved?
