Income tax filing

Sir Will you kindly help this old man of 70 years.In Income Tax I can generate a XML file .A message comes Save XML to save it ( after completion of all formalities).Done,Again a message comes That the file has been saved to the desired path/destination. Next is UNKNOWN to me.How to save this XML format in DESKTOP/SYSTEM so that it can be uploaded during submission. I can save the excel format in MY DOCUMENTS by clicking Save As in the left side of the Excel Sheet and open it to see the EXCEL FORMAT only.but I T Dept wants XML FORMAT .WHERE TO TRACE THIS XML FORMAT for uploading. Please illustrate step wise to help me. With thanks
