My friend has incurred around 10K towards medical expenses as bills for medicines and check ups on account of her pregnancy. And about 40K during the hospitalization during delivery. Is this eligible for tax exemption and if so under which sections(s)?

It depends on the employer whether the employer provides medical reimbursement to its employees. Does she have a medi-claim policy?
