Income tax benefit when hiring an assistant?

466 views 1 replies

Dear members,

I am a professor in one of the management institutes. I had hired a research assistant for about 6 months with a salary of Rs 15000 pm for a research work. Is it possible to claim tax benefit on this amount while filing my individual tax return?

If yes how? Please help.

Thanks,

Ravi

It depends on your employement. If you are a salaried emplyee at the institute, then you may not be able to claim deduction. But if you are receiving professional fees or consultancy fees etc, then you may claim this expenses as deduction in your ITR. You may check under what section your TDS is getting deducted.
