Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the tax treatment for Short-Term Capital Gains (STCG) on unlisted equity shares for the Assessment Year 2022-23. It confirms that the flat 15% STCG tax rate typically applies to listed shares, not unlisted ones. For unlisted shares, STCG is generally taxed at slab rates, while Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) are taxed at 20% with indexation. Section 112A and the 10% LTCG rate with STT are specifically for listed shares.
