Internet Explorer 9, the latest version of Microsoft’s web browser, would be available in 11 Indian regional languages, the company said on Monday. These include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. The move is part of Microsoft’s efforts to promote local language computing in India, which aims at taking IT to the masses. Users can download Internet Explorer 9 in a language of their choice by visiting to the company website. Microsoft has been working on language computing in India since 1998, when Microsoft chairman Bill Gates visited India for the first time. In 2003, Microsoft India launched Project Bhasha to promote local language usage in IT by bringing together the various stakeholders including government, academia and research institutions. - www.business-standard.com
