CHENNAI: Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) Secretary, R. Bandyopadhyay on Monday urged the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) to include ‘green audit’ as an optional subject in its curriculum so that its importance could be imparted to all.
Inaugurating the Green initiative for ICWAI at Southern Regional Headquarters, he said that ‘Green audit’ could be converted into a compulsory subject soon after it garners sufficient demand from corporate sector and students. Terming it as a good initiative that would have a lasting impact on greenery, he said “professional bodies, entrepreneurs, agriculturalists and corporate sector should join together to carryout initiatives in unthinkable spaces in the interest of the country.”
ICWAI president G.N. Venkataraman said that this initiative would be replicated in 93 chapters across the country.
Speaking at an interactive meeting organised by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said that the Centre was not in a hurry to push the new Companies Bill.
A Standing Committee of more than 30 Parliamentarians is seriously discussing various provisions. Besides, the representatives of various national chambers of commerce and professional bodies have sent in their recommendations, he said.
