If you do not have expert knowledge invest through mutual funds , stock trading can be fun n challenging if you are interested in derivatives like fut & options u may google various strategies for eg bull call spread , strangle , covered call etc....

edelweiss and moneycontrol provide dummy account . Start trading first from that account..later on open the account with some broker. Keep in mind intraday can give u quick profit and can also wipe out your money also

hello,
acc to me...you can usw following steps...
1. know the difference between investment,speculation and gambling.
2. read some stock trading books for knowledge but in trading, make your own strategy.
3. stock market is a big NO for short profit.
4. you should read security analysis book and make your virtual portfolio.
5. before investing( which i must say rather than speculation or gambling) see the pulse of stock market by moneycontrol( i prefer it best).
6.visit the sites like valueresearchonline.com
7. after 6 month doing the above...you may invest!

I think, you should follow this instructions.
- You could get free basic trading tutorials (how to buy/sell,equity,options,stop loss,shorts etc).
- Pick a popular mutual fund and see where they are investing and continuously follow them.
- I would suggest to invest on big companies at the beginning to be on the safe side until you get a hang of the market.
- Lot of things can effect a particular scrip/market (For example Iraq militants attack effect -> market went down). I advice you to follow news.
