Huge difference in gross salary betwen form16 and form 26as

TDS 945 views 2 replies

My previous employer have given incorrect information in Form 26AS.  For AY 2011-12, there is Rs.14 Lacs difference between Gross Salary in Form 16A( Rs.10 Lacs ) and Total Amount paid in Form 26AS( Rs. 24 Lacs ). I didn't had any other income in that financial year and had only one deductor. But, the Total Tax Deducted column is correct and same in both Form 16 and Form 26AS.

The value in Form16A is correct. I have maintained all my salary slips. I tried asking/emails/phone calls to my previous employer to file a revised TDS. But they are not responding. Do I have any other methods to correct this ? Can I file a grievance any where ?

Thanks for the reply. The comparisons are correct. It is between gross salaries.

About circumstances, I received a demand notice from Regional AO. But the demand notice was striclty since my tax filer( in AY 2011-12) had failed to include double taxation relief under section 89/90. But, an online reply to demand notice needed me to upload Form26AS, and there I saw this mistake.

Defending would have been easier, had I been in same location as Regional AO. But I have relocated and will find it hard to defend, unless I travel to Chennai.

That post is a load of helpful information. Thanks.

  1. As I had received a written show cause notice from Regional AO, I had the name/address of the AO. I had then replied via registered post. Now, from your post, I also have their email and phone number.
  2. As suggested, I will contact the suggested grievance officer for my Form 26AS correction. About escalation to levels higher, unlike grievances in services like BSNL or SBI Bank, the escalation levels are not transparent and not listed any where. May be, I have to visit IT offices to find this out.
  3. About address in database, my PAN is taken from Kerala with permanent address in Kerala. Just that I worked in Chennai for while. Tried sending jurisdiction change request via CA. But, as you already mentioned, that didn't help.

Thanks again.
