if rent paid 4000 monthly there is no agreement but rent paid to owner through bank monthly.

rent receipt is mandatory for HRA deduction.

Yes rent receipt is mandatory quoting the pan number of the landlord.

Now landlords will show it under Income from house property head.

PAN not necessary if rent paid below 1 Lakh.
