hai frnds, i am giving group 2 final in may 2013. I am not getting confidence as to how to study idt. pl help me in this . i am having time till 31st march i want to finish Central excise and st. pl help me as to what and how to start reading. i am very much tensed.. amendments and which latest which is old one i am not able to get is there any cd or video lecture relating to this for may 2013 exam

Okay the first thing you need to do is to complete VAT & ST. Because the amount of reading you need to do is pretty less in these topics (I can say you complete the entire VAT & ST in just 1 day) and the weightage is 40%. Then you should probably go for Excise since it also a weight of 40% (Even though the syllabus is a little lengthy, still please concentrate well on this). I can say you can complete the entire Excise also in just 2 days if you study wholeheartedly with complete determination and dedication. And finally you have to deal with Customs. In this case, however you can just give a rough reading for 2-3 times. Please don't waste much time on Customs because the syllabus here is as much as in the case of Excise but the weightage is only 20%.

thanks for your response shrikant. but many amendments in st and central excise for may 13. i am in a confused state around cenvat credit rules of both sT and excise and common things in both . how can i over come this

@ Madhavi: I actually didn't get you. Is it like you are unable to comprehend the latest ammendments in ST and Excise. I mean are you finding the ammendments, a little too complicated to understand. Is that the reason for your confusion?

Read Following:
- Case Laws ( approx. 80-100 covered by ICAI-----Nov. 2012 + May 2013 )
- Amendments ( For May Exam 2013, it covers a huge portion of Service tax)
- Practice Manual ( Personally, I never suggest to read Practice manual of IDT at all because ICAI Practice manual are not updated or revised )
- RTP (latest)
- Numerical Problems ( For this, U must have read and understand each and every provision)
- Entire Service Tax Book (must for May 2013 Exam )

Well ,,,,I am giving reading to all services so that I come to know the overview of all topics.
Anything left in this portion may trouble in fetching passing marks in IDT...............Service Tax almost covers 30 marks in IDT.
For getting gud marks in numerical portion, u must be well versed with all Negative List Services, Declared List, Abatements, Mega Exemption...............

If you are looking for a book for revision then go for yashvant mangal book. It is short and to poimt and is good for exam time preparation.
