How to register for Professional Tax in Bangalore

We are a manpower recruitment/supply company.
I have some questions regarding the Professional Tax registration in Bangalore, please assist:

1) Is even a sole proprietor liable to pay professional tax if employees are hired?
2) Is there any exemption given to employers if they have certain number of employees only?
3) Where is the office in Bangalore for getting this Professional Tax registration done?
4) Is the registration a straight forward process or there are bribes to be paid and hence better to hire a middlemen?

All persons who are into Trade or profession are required to register & pay profession tax. Employer has to arrange for payment of profession tax of employees as well as himself.

1.Yes, 2. No exemptions, 3. The offices are in Resaldar Street, Near Krishna Flour Mill, Sheshadripuram. 4. I suggest you to go yourselves. However, if you are very busy or not comfortable with some of the formalities in the Government offices, you can opt for a middlemen.

Thanks Dharmaraju for your quick response. I have some more queries if you can help:

1) Is there only one office in Bangalore?
2) If someone does not have any full time employees but instead hires consultants / contractors for doing the job, still PT is required?
3) Do I need to have PT registration for employer even if I do not want to hire any more employees in this financial year?
4) Are there any other offices apart from Sheshadripuram?

Dear Shaheen,

1. The jurisdiction where you need to register depends on you place of business. Depending the pin codes, the files will be alloted to different PTO circles. I feel all the PTO circles are in Sheshadripuram.

2. PT is required to be paid only if there are employees in your concern. Otherwise, you need not.

3. Employer PT is payable irrespective of whether you have employees or not.

4. I feel most of the offices are in Sheshadripuram.

080-22267245 - This is the number of PRO-Commercial tax Department in Bangalore. Hope the same will be of some help to you.

I have some more questions if u can please help:
1) can I get a pre-dated registeration of PT done for employer as well as employee?
2) Is it ok to inform the people at PT office that you are operating from residence and all? Is there any issue around that usually?
3) Do they issue the certificate immediately? If not, is it possible to have the certificate issued immediately
4) Do we need to take DD of the required amount or they will take check and cash as well?
