Yes u can
to claim exemption u have to attend all papers in grp 2. make ur attendance there. other ur exemption will not be valid.

Do not concentrate on only 1 subject and try for exemption. Try to score 60 above in all subjects you wil atleast reach close to that. It is very bad habit to concentrate on one group/one subject. Please do not worry about results, be thorough with the concepts, results will automatically follow. getting absent in even one subject of ne group will render the exemption of dat group void. so don b absent , go der n atleast see how the paper comes, you'll get xperience even if u knw ur gonna fail , but otherwise thts grt...
so ya u'll pass in first group if u remain iabsent in 2nd group,but xemtion of 2nd grop's subject will nt b available if u remain absent evn in one subject of 2nd group.

if u need exemption in any one subject, do not be absent for any other subjects of same group.
