He Believes there is logic behind everything and likes to figure it out. And it is logic that made Vikram Verma — a student of Chartered Accountancy at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India — write a book for other students pursuing the course.

The lack of a comprehensive and reasonably priced book for Management Information and Control Systems is what prompted Verma, a resident of Kharar, pen down a book.

“My father is a bus conductor with CTU and has studied up to Class XII, while my mother has not even finished her Class V. We did suffer from financial problems. Every time I had to buy a textbook, I had to wait for a few months to save enough money and then buy, as the cost of books has always been very high,” says Verma.

Due to this, Verma started doing odd jobs during school days. He used to make keys, lids of containers or repair umbrellas. Having studied in Kharar up to Class X, he took admission in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40. For graduation, he took admission in Government College, Sector 46. Along with that, he pursued a foundation course in accountancy. Getting an LIC agency in 2002 did improve his financial position.

“During my foundation course, I had my first brush with computers. I was curious to know how certain operations can be performed on software Excel. Gradually I started gaining all the knowledge about programming that I could. I used to read books at the Central State Library to know the theory. Whenever I had access to a computer I would put it to practice. I like applying logic, and that helped,” says Verma.

He then went on to give lessons in computers to the employees of CDAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) and at an Australian call centre. Verma now wants to pursue a course in SAP and then help companies solve their networking problems as well as that of frauds. He is also planning to hold a seminar for CA students to teach them Tally at a nominal cost.

Verma feels he is the right person to write a book for CA students, as he himself is a student. “I know the kind of problems that students face and what they would need from a book. Definitions have been provided in the easiest form. There is a diagram index and ways to handle questions that look similar, but require different solutions,” he says.

He has also applied to the Guinness Book of World Record for being the first student to have brought out a book for students of the same course.

The book has been published by Shuchita Publishers and is priced at Rs 130.

Isn't it coollll!!
